Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefits Plans;
Notice of Meeting
Pursuant to the authority contained in Section 512 of the Employee
Retirement Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), 29 U.S.C. 1142, a public
meeting of the Working Group on Defined Contribution Plans of the
Advisory Council on Employee Welfare and Pension Benefit Plans will be
held from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 26, 1994, in Suite
N-3437 AB, U.S. Department of Labor Building, Third and Constitution
Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210.
This work group was formed by the Advisory Council to study issues
relating to defined contribution plans covered by ERISA.
The purpose of the July 26 meeting is to take testimony regarding
five areas of defined contribution plans, i.e., the role of the trend
toward participant self-directed investments in determining benefit
levels; the impact of the current regulatory scheme on benefit levels
for defined contribution plans in general and 401(k) plans in
particular; from a retirement policy perspective, the level of benefits
provided by defined contribution plans in general and 401(k) plans in
particular; mandatory employer contributions to defined contribution
plans as a possible source of increase in the overall retirement income
for most employees; the impact of increased educational efforts on
benefit levels; and the impact of increased disclosure on benefit
levels. The work group will also take testimony and or submissions from
employee representatives, employer representatives and other interested
individuals and groups regarding the subject matter.
Individuals or representatives of organizations wishing to address
the work group should submit a written request on or before July 21,
1994 to William E. Morrow, Executive Secretary, ERISA Advisory Council,
U.S. Department of Labor, Suite N-5677, 200 Constitution Avenue, N.W.,
Washington, D.C. 20210. Oral presentations will be limited to ten (10)
minutes, but witnesses may submit an extended statement for the record.
Organizations or individuals may also submit statements for the
record without testifying. Twenty (20) copies of such statement should
be sent to the Executive Secretary of the Advisory Council at the above
address. Papers will be accepted and included in the record of the
meeting if received on or before July 21, 1994.
