Shipping Coordinating Committee, Subcommittee on Safety of Life
at Sea, Working Group on Bulk Chemicals; Meeting
The Working Group on Bulk Chemicals (BCH) of the Subcommittee on
Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) will conduct an open meeting at 9:30 a.m.
on August 30, 1994, in Room 2415, U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, 2100
Second Street, SW., Washington, DC 20593-0001. The purpose of the
meeting is to provide a preview of the agenda items to be addressed at
the Twenty-fourth Session of the Bulk Chemicals Subcommittee of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) which is scheduled for
September 19-23, 1994, at the IMO Headquarters in London.
Among other things, the items of particular interest are:
a. Amendments and interpretation of the Code for the Construction
and Equipment of Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (BCH Code)
and the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships
Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code).
b. Amendments and interpretation of the provisions of Annex II of
the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships
(MARPOL 73/78).
c. Amendments and interpretation of the provisions of the Code for
the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in
Bulk (GC Code) and the International Code for the Construction and
Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code).
d. Guidelines for technical assessment for intervention under the
1973 Intervention Protocol.
e. Role of the human element in maritime casualties.
f. Air pollution from ships.
g. Existing ships' standards.
h. International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response
and Cooperation.
