Science and Education National Research Initiative Advisory 
Committee

    Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of Agriculture will 
reestablish the Science and Education National Research Initiative 
Advisory Committee. This Committee will advise the Secretary of 
Agriculture with respect to areas of agricultural research to be 
supported, priorities to be adopted, and procedures to be followed in 
implementing programs of research grants to be awarded competitively 
through the National Research Initiative Competitive Grants Program.
    This Committee will meet annually in Washington, D.C. Duties of 
this Committee are to advise the Secretary on competitive grant 
policies for the Agency, examine needs as related to on-going programs, 
provide an overview of research needs in areas considered for U.S. 
Department of Agriculture competitive grants, assess program progress 
and recommend resource shifts, and advise on ways to improve guidelines 
and evaluation procedures.
    It has been determined that the reestablishment of this Advisory 
Committee is in the public interest in connection with the work of the 
U.S. Department of Agriculture.
