Title: 1996 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-
    Associated Recreation
    OMB Approved Number: New collection
Abstract: The Bureau of the Census is conducting the 1996 National
Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife Associated Recreation for the
Fish and Wildlife Service. The Service has sponsored national surveys
of fishing and hunting at 5-year intervals since 1965 at the request of
the States through the International Association of Fish and Wildlife
Agencies. The 1996 national survey will be a comprehensive data base of
fish and wildlife-related recreation activities and expenditures that
are needed for identifying and developing management priorities at both
national and state levels. This survey is the only comprehensive
national data base of uses and users of fish and wildlife resources. It
will provide national and state level statistics that are not available
from other sources. The survey data are needed to help the Service
effectively administer the fish and wildlife restoration grant
programs, and to help the states develop project proposals and
conservation programs. It provides essential information on present
recreation demands and a basis for projecting future demands. Data are
needed to identify trends in fish and wildlife-related recreation. This
[[Page 30098]] information is used in formulating policies and
    developing programs.
