National Assessment Governing Board; Teleconference
AGENCY: National Assessment Governing Board; Education.
ACTION: Notice of Teleconference.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda of a
forthcoming teleconference of the Executive Committee of the National
Assessment Governing Board (NAGB or Board). This notice also describes
the functions of the Board. Notice of this meeting is required under
Section 10(a)(2) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act. This document
is intended to notify the general public of their opportunity to
attend.
DATES: July 12, 1994.
TIME: 11:00 A.M. (E.D.T.) to completion of business.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The National Assessment Governing Board is
established under section 406(i) of the General Education Provisions
Act (GEPA) as amended by section 3403 of the National Assessment of
Educational Progress Improvement Act (NAEP Improvement Act), Title III-
C of the Augustus F. Hawkins--Robert T. Stafford Elementary and
Secondary School Improvement Amendments of 1988 (Pub. L. 100-297), (20
USC 1221e-1).
The Board is established to formulate policy guidelines for the
National Assessment of Educational Progress. The Board is responsible
for selecting subject areas to be assessed, developing assessment
objectives, identifying appropriate achievement goals for each grade
and subject tested, and establishing standards and procedures for
interstate and national comparisons.
The Executive Committee of the National Assessment Governing Board
will meet via teleconference on July 12, 1994 from 11:00 A.M. until the
completion of business. Because this is a teleconference meeting,
facilities will be provided so the public will have access to the
Committee's deliberations. These facilities will be provided in the
location listed in the portion of this notice titled ``Location''.
The Committee will convene at 11:00 A.M. Following roll call and
introductory remarks, there will be discussion of the following items:
(1) review and approval of the Agenda for the August 4-6 NAGB meeting;
(2) review and approval of the proposed budget for fiscal years 1995
and 1996; (3) a report on the July 8 meeting on hierarchical linear
modeling; and (4) news on reauthorization and Board appointments.
The public is being given less than fifteen days' notice of this
teleconference because of problems encountered in scheduling.
Records are kept of all Board proceedings and are available for
public inspection at the U.S. Department of Education, National
Assessment Governing Board, Suite 825, 800 North Capitol Street, NW.,
Washington, DC, from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
