    AGENCY: Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center, Department of Energy.
    
    ACTION: Notice of Intent.

    SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Pittsburgh Energy 
    Technology Center (PETC) announces that pursuant to 10 CFR 
    600.7(b)(2)(i), it intends to award a Cooperative Agreement to Electric 
    Power Research Institute for ``Cofunding of the EPRI Upgraded Coal 
    Interest Group Program''. This activity would be conducted by the 
    applicant using its own resources or those donated or provided by third 
    parties; however, DOE support of this activity would enhance the public 
    benefits to be derived and DOE knows of no other entity which is 
    conducting or is planning to conduct such an activity.

        Term of Assistance Award: 18 months
        Cost of Assistance Effort: The total estimated project value is 
    $570,000.
        Objective: The objective of this project is to form a working group 
    consisting of electric power producers, state and federal agencies, and 
    private vendors that is interested in funding studies that promote the 
    commercial availability of upgraded coal technologies and utilization 
    of products derived therefrom.
