Advisory Committee; Renewal

AGENCY: Food and Drug Administration, HHS.
ACTION: Notice.

SUMMARY: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announces the renewal 
of the Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee 
(formerly Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease) by 
the Commissioner of Food and Drugs. The Commissioner has determined 
that it is in the public interest to renew the charter of the Committee 
for an additional 2 years. At the time of charter renewal, the 
Committee's name and function were changed to more accurately describe 
the Committee and because the Committee is no longer serving in an ad 
hoc capacity. Elsewhere in this issue of the Federal Register the 
agency is issuing a final rule that announces the addition of the 
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies Advisory Committee to the 
agency's list of standing advisory committees (21 CFR 14.100). This 
notice is issued under the Federal Advisory Committee Act of October 6, 
1972 (Pub. L. 92-463 (5 U.S.C. app.2)).
DATES: Authority for this committee will expire on June 9, 1998, unless 
the Commissioner formally determines that renewal is in the public 
interest.
