DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
[Project No. 2170-008]
Chugach Electric Association, Inc.; Notice of Availability of
Draft Environmental Assessment
July 7, 1998.
An environmental assessment (EA) is available for public review.
The EA is for an application to amend the license for the Cooper lake
Hydroelectric Project. The application is to increase the spillway
capacity to allow passage of the Probable Maximum Flood by lowering the
spillway crest to 1,206 feet mean sea level and installing 4.5-foot-
high steel sheet parapet wall along the crest of the dam. The EA finds
that approval of the amendment would not constitute a major federal
action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment.
The project is located on Cooper Lake, Cooper Creek and Kenai Lake in
the municipality of Anchorage, Alaska.
Copies of the EA are available for review in the Public Reference
Branch of the Commission's offices at 888 First Street, NE.,
Washington, DC 20426.
Comments should be filed within 30 days from the date of this
notice and should be addressed to David P. Boergers, Acting Secretary,
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, NE.,
Washington, DC 20426. Please affix Project No. 2170-008 to all
comments. For further information, please contact John K. Novak,
Environmental Assessment Coordinator, at (202) 219-2828.
David P. Boergers,
Acting Secretary.
