Title of Proposal: NOFA for Research to Improve the Evaluation and
Control of Residential Lead-Based Paint Hazards.
OMB Control Number: To be requested.
Description of the Need for the Information and Proposed Use: This
information collection is required in connection with the upcoming
issuance of a NOFA announcing the availability of approximately $2.5
million for grants or cooperative agreements for research on specific
topic areas related to residential lead hazard evaluation and control.
Grants are authorized under sections 1051 and 1052 of the Residential
Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Act of 1992, which is Title X of the
Housing and Community Development Act of 1992.
Results from this research will be used to update the HUD
Guidelines for the Evaluation and Control of Lead-Based Paint Hazards
in Housing. It is anticipated that this targeted research will also
increase both the accuracy of residential lead hazard evaluation and
the effectiveness of residential lead hazard reduction interventions,
while improving the cost-effectiveness of the entire process. This
research should contribute to an eventual reduction in the national
    prevalence of childhood lead poisoning.
