    Notice Pursuant to the National Cooperative Research and 
    Production Act of 1993; National Media Laboratory Strategic Alliance
    
        Notice is hereby given that, on December 19, 1997, pursuant to 
    Section 6(a) of the National Cooperative Research and Production Act of 
    1993, 15 U.S.C. 4301 et seq. (``the Act''), the National Media 
    Laboratory Strategic Alliance has filed written notifications 
    simultaneously with the Attorney General and the Federal Trade 
    Commission disclosing (1) the identities of the parties and (2) the 
    nature and objectives of the venture. The notifications were filed for 
    the purpose of invoking the Act's provisions limiting the recovery of 
    antitrust plaintiffs to actual damages under specified circumstances. 
    Pursuant to Section 6(b) of the Act, the identities of the parties are 
    Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (``3M''), St. Paul, MN; 
    Ceridian Corporation, acting through its Computing Devices 
    International Division, Bloomington, MN; Ampex Data Systems 
    Corporation, Redwood City, CA; Imation Corporation, Oakdale, MN; Lucent 
    Technologies, Inc., Murray Hill, NJ; Motorola, Schaumburg, IL. The name 
    of the venture is the ``National Media Laboratory Strategic Alliance'', 
    and was entered on November 4, 1997. The nature and objectives of the 
    venture are to perform research and development in the area of 
    information technologies and provide prototype solutions necessary to 
    support military and intelligence community requirements. Some of the 
    information technologies covered include high bandwidth information 
    communication, compression, computing displays, information processing, 
    records management, on-line interactive training, assisted target 
    recognition, multi-media databases, data architectures, storage media, 
    and storage devices.
        Membership in the Consortium will remain open and the Consortium 
    will file additional written notifications disclosing all changes in 
    membership.
