    Southern Natural Gas Company; Notice of Proposed Changes in FERC 
    Gas Tariff
    
    July 21, 1997.
        Take notice that on July 16, 1997, Southern Natural Gas Company 
    (Southern) tendered for filing as part of its FERC Gas Tariff, Seventh 
    Revised Volume No. 1, the following tariff sheets to become effective 
    August 15, 1997:
    
    Fourth Revised Sheet No. 44
    First Revised Sheet No. 57
    Fourth Revised Sheet No. 58
    Third Revised Sheet No. 63
    Original Sheet No. 139.01
    Second Revised Sheet No. 153
    First Revised Sheet No. 154
    
        Southern states that the purpose of this filing is to change the 
    penalty provision of certain imbalance resolution procedures to provide 
    that the current $15 per Dth rate will be replaced by a tiered pricing 
    structure with rates ranging from $1 to $15 per Dth. Southern has also 
    proposed a modification to its penalty waiver provision and has 
    proposed to add a new provision addressing unauthorized gas volumes 
    delivered or taken from its system.
        Southern states that copies of the filing will be served upon its 
    shippers and interested state commissions.
        Any person desiring to be heard or to protest this filing should 
    file a motion to intervene or protest with the Federal Energy 
    Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426, 
    in accordance with Rules 211 and 214 of the Commission's Rules of 
    Practice and Procedure (18 CFR Sections 385.211 and 385.214). All such 
    motions and protests must be filed in accordance with Section 154.210 
    of the Commission's Regulations. Protests will be considered by the 
    Commission in determining the appropriate action to be taken, but will 
    not serve to make protestants parties to the proceeding. Any person 
    wishing to become a party must file a motion to intervene. Copies of 
    this filing are on file with the Commission and are available for 
    public inspection in the Public Reference Room.
