AGENCY: National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Commerce.
ACTION: Scientific research permit modification.

SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that a request for modification of
scientific research permit no. 927 submitted by the Institute of Marine
Sciences, University of California, Santa Cruz, CA 95064 (Principal
Investigators: Daniel P. Costa, Ph.D. and Michael E. Goebel) has been
granted.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On May 30, 1996, notice was published in the
Federal Register (61 FR 27052) that a request for a scientific research
permit to take Northern fur seals had been submitted by the above-named
organization. The requested permit has been issued under the authority
of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1361
et seq.), the Regulations Governing the Taking and Importing of Marine
Mammals (50 CFR part 216) and the Fur Seal Act of 1966, as amended (16
U.S.C. 1151 et seq.).
