Georgia Power Company; Notice of Availability of Environmental
    Assessment

    July 27, 1998.
An environmental assessment (EA), is available for public review.
The EA was prepared for an application filed by the Georgia Power
Company, on September 25, 1997, requesting the Commission's
authorization to permit a water withdrawal facility to be installed
within the project boundary to withdraw up to 4 million gallons of
water per day from the project reservoir. The water will be withdrawn
by the City of Madison, Georgia to be treated and used for human
    consumption.
The EA finds that approval of the application would not constitute
a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human
environment. The Wallace Dam Project is located on the Oconee River, in
Putnam, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Greene, and Hancock Counties,
    Georgia.
The EA was written by staff in the Office of Hydropower Licensing,
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Copies of the EA can be viewed at
the Commission's Reference and Information Center, 888 First Street,
N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426. Copies can also be obtained by calling
the project manager, Pete Yarrington, at (202) 219-2939.
    David P. Boergers,
    Acting Secretary.
