Proposed Collection; Comment Request

AGENCY: Department of the Air Force.

ACTION: Notice.

    In compliance with Section 3506 (c)(2)(A) of the Paperwork 
Reduction Act of 1995, the Department of the Air Force announces the 
proposed reinstatement of a public information collection and seeks 
public comment on the provisions thereof. Comments are invited on: (a) 
Whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the 
proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether 
the information shall have practical utility; (b) the accuracy of the 
agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection; 
and (d) ways to minimize the burden of the information collection on 
respondents, including through the use of automated collection 
techniques or other forms of information technology.

DATES: Consideration will be given to all comments received by October 
14, 1997.

    Needs and Uses: The information collection requirement is used by 
the Air Force to identify the best-qualified applicants for the 
scholarship, providing for a ``whole person'' evaluation.
    Affect Public: Individuals and household.
    Number of Respondents: 500.
    Responses Per Respondent: 1.
    Average Burden Per Response: 42 minutes.
    Frequency: On occasion.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION:

Summary of Information Collection

    Respondents are college students between the ages of 18 and 29 
years. This form collects general identification and academic 
performance data, academic aptitude, and Professor of Aerospace Studies 
(PAS) evaluation of Air Force ROTC Scholarship applicant's performance 
and potential. It is used by AFROTC Scholarship Selection Boards to 
determine eligibility and competitiveness for award of scholarships 
involving expenditures of Federal funds.
