Submission for OMB Review; Comment Request
The Department of Commerce (DOC) has submitted to the Office of
Management and Budget (OMB) for clearance the following proposal for
collection of information under the provisions of the Paperwork
Reduction Act (44 USC Chapter 35).
Agency: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
Title: Emergency Beacon Registration.
Agency Form Number(s): None.
OMB Approval Number: 0648-0295.
Type of Request: Extension of a currently approved collection.
Burden: 2,500 hours.
Number of Respondents: 10,000.
Avg. Hours Per Response: 15 minutes.
Needs and Uses: An international system exists to use satellites to
detect and locate ships, aircraft, or individuals in distress if they
are equipped with an emergency radio beacon. Persons purchasing such a
beacon must register it with NOAA. The data provided in the
registration assists in identifying who is in trouble and also
suppressings false alarms.
Affected Public: Businesses or other for-profit organizations,
individuals, not for profit institutions, federal government, state,
local or tribal government.
Frequency: On occasion.
Respondent's Obligation: Mandatory.
