Proposed Project: Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Providers as
Information Customers
Clinicians in the field of substance abuse treatment are
increasingly turning to information products and services in managing
the care of their patients, accessing new knowledge about treatment,
and organizing their management systems. This study will help SAMHSA's
Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) to be better able to
synthesize and disseminate knowledge by providing a representative
assessment of the information products and services that currently
exist in the substance abuse treatment industry.
Program directors and clinicians will be surveyed in a 15-minute
telephone interview asking about their perceptions of information
products and services that are currently being used, and their
perceived need or interest in such new or improved products being
developed and made available. The instrument that will be used to
survey the providers and clinical staff will include a series of
questions around a taxonomy and list of information products and
services that are or might be used in the substance abuse treatment
provider industry. A nationally representative target sample of 275
facilities will be drawn, and interviews will be completed with program
facility directors and clinical staff. The estimated annualized burden
for a one-year data collection period is summarized below.
