    AGENCY: Department of the Interior.
    
    ACTION: Notice.

    SUMMARY: The Department of the Interior proposes to withdraw 
    approximately 19,100 acres of Federal lands for protection of the 
    watersheds within the drainages of the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone, 
    Soda Butte Creek, and the Stillwater River, and the water quality and 
    fresh water fishery resources within Yellowstone National Park. This 
    notice segregates the land for up to 2 years from location and entry 
    under the mining laws. The lands will remain open to mineral leasing.

    SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On August 29, 1995, a petition was approved 
    allowing the Assistant Secretary, Policy, Management, and Budget to 
    file an application to withdraw the following described Federal lands 
    from location and entry under the mining laws, subject to valid 
    existing rights:
    
    Principal Meridian, Montana
    
    T. 8 S., R. 14 E.,
        Sec. 25, unsurveyed;
        Sec. 33, partly unsurveyed;
        Secs. 34 to 36, inclusive, unsurveyed.
    T. 9 S., R. 14 E.,
        Secs. 1 to 28, inclusive;
        Secs. 33 to 36, inclusive, partly surveyed.
    T. 8 S., R. 15 E.,
        Secs. 30 and 31.
    T. 9 S., R. 15 E.,
        Secs. 5 to 8, inclusive;
        Secs. 17 to 20, inclusive;
        Secs. 29 to 32, inclusive.
    
        The areas described aggregate approximately 19,100 acres in Park 
    County, Montana.
    
        The purpose of the proposed withdrawal is for protection of the 
    watersheds within the drainages of the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone, 
    Soda Butte Creek, and the Stillwater River, and the water quality and 
    fresh water fishery resources within Yellowstone National Park.
        A withdrawal application, when filed, will be processed in 
    accordance with the regulations set forth in 43 CFR 2300.
        For a period of 2 years from the date of publication of this notice 
    in the Federal Register, the lands will be segregated from location and 
    entry under the mining law, subject to valid existing rights, unless 
    the application is denied or canceled or the withdrawal is approved 
    prior to the end of the segregation period.
        Existing uses of the segregated lands may be continued except for 
    the location or relocation of mining claims during the pendency of the 
    2-year segregative period, including but not limited to all legal 
    ingress and egress to valid mining claims and patented claims, all 
    rights-of-way, all access to non-Federal lands, all current 
    recreational uses, and all commercial uses requiring special use 
    permits.
