Proposed Guidelines for the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against 
Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act

AGENCY: Department of Justice.

ACTION: Proposed Guidelines; Notice of Reopening of Comment Period.

SUMMARY: On April 12, 1995, the United States Department of Justice 
(DOJ) published Proposed Guidelines to implement the Jacob Wetterling 
Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act. 
These Proposed Guidelines may be found at 60 FR 18613, April 12, 1995. 
The original 90 day comment period expired on July 11, 1995.
    The majority of states already have some form of sex offender 
registration. It is likely that most states will have to make at least 
minor changes to their existing systems in order to comply with the 
statutory requirements outlined in these guidelines. To ensure that the 
public has ample opportunity to fully review and comment on the 
proposed guidelines, we are reopening the comment period and will 
accept comments for an additional 45 days after publication of this 
notice.

DATES: Comments must be received by October 30, 1995.
