DOC has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for
clearance the following proposal for collection of information under
the provisions of the Paperwork Reduction Act (44 U.S.C. chapter 35).
Agency: Bureau of the Census.
Title: Shipper's Export Declaration Form.
Form Number(s): Form 7525-V-Alternate (Intermodal).

Type of Request: Extension of a currently approved collection.
Burden: 473,445 hours.
Number of Respondents: 2,544,037.

Needs and Uses: Shipper's Export Declarations (SED's) are required
from exporters for all shipments valued over $2500 from the United
States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to all foreign
countries except Canada; between the United States and Puerto Rico; and
from the United States or Puerto Rico to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Information on the cargo, its origin and destination, and method and
date of export are requested. Customs officials gather the SED forms
from export carriers and transmit them to the Census Bureau. The Census
Bureau designed Form 7525-V-Alternate primarily for waterborne
shipments to simplify documentation. SED's are the basic source of the
official U.S. export statistics compiled by the Census Bureau. These
statistics provide data for the merchandise trade balance, a major
economic indicator and component of the gross domestic product.
