SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The National Advisory Council on Indian

Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, (20 U.S.C.
7871). The Council is established to, among other things, assist the
Secretary of Education in carrying out responsibilities under this
Title and to advise Congress and the Secretary of Education with regard
to federal education programs in which Indian children or adults
participate or from which they can benefit.
The Chair of the National Advisory Council on Indian Education has
called a meeting for Thursday, September 28, and Friday, September 29,
1995. The agenda will include a briefing on the status of Indian
Education for the upcoming 1996 fiscal year. Specifically, the budget
being proposed for Indian Education Act programs is being drastically
reduced with no appropriations designated for all FY 96 discretionary

Department of Education.
The public is being given less than 15 days notice due to problems
in scheduling this meeting.
