Notice of Receipt of Cultural Property Request From the
Government of the Republic of Italy

The Government of the Republic of Italy, concerned that its
cultural heritage is in jeopardy from pillage, made a request to the
Government of the United States under Article 9 of the 1970 UNESCO
Convention. The request was received on September 16, 1999, by the
United States Information Agency. It seeks U.S. import restrictions on
categories of archaeological material in stone, metal, ceramic, bone,
and glass, and wall paintings from the 5th millennium B.C. to the 5th
    c. A.D. In accordance with provisions of the Convention on Cultural
Property Implementation Act (19 U.S.C. 2602 and 2603), the request will
be reviewed by the Cultural Property Advisory Committee which will
report on its findings and recommendations thereunder. Information
about the Act and U.S. implementation of the 1970 UNESCO Convention can
    be found at http://e.usia.gov/education/culprop.
