Meeting of the Advisory Council on Dependents' Education
AGENCY: Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), Office of the
Secretary of Defense.
ACTION: Notice of meeting.

SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda of a
forthcoming meeting of the Advisory Council on Dependents' Education
(ACDE). It also describes the functions of the Council. Notice of this
meeting is required under the National Advisory Committee Act. Although
the meeting is open to the public, because of space constraints, anyone
wishing to attend the meeting should contact the point of contact
listed below.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The Advisory Council on Dependents'
Education is established under title XIV, section 1411, of Public Law
95-561, Defense Dependents' Education Act of 1978, as amended by title
XII, section 1204(b)(3)-(5), of Public Law 99-145, Department of
Defense Authorization Act of 1986 (20 U.S.C., chapter 25A, section 929,
Advisory Council on Dependents' Education). The Council is cochaired by
designees of the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Education.
In addition to a representative of each of the Department, 12 members
are appointed jointly by the Secretaries of Defense and Education.
Members include representatives of educational institutions and
agencies, professional employee organizations and unions, unified
military commands, school administrators parents of DoDDS students, and
one DoDDS student. The Director, DoDDS, serves as the Executive
Secretary of the Council. The purpose of the Council is to advise the
Secretary of Defense and the DoDDS Director about effective educational
programs and practices that should be considered by DoDDS and to
perform other tasks as may be required by the Secretary of Defense. The
agenda includes reports about topics raised during ACDE team visits to
schools in Germany, England, The Netherlands, and Belgium; the DoD
Education Activity (DoDEA) Community Strategic Plan, to include
communications, technology, assessment, budget, and organizational
restructuring.
