Take notice that on August 26, 1997, Steuben Gas Storage Company
(Steuben) tendered for filing as part of its FERC Gas Tariff, Original
Volume No. 1, Second Revised Sheet No. 148, to be effective October 1,
    1997.
Steuben states that the attached tariff sheet is being filed in
compliance with the Commission's Order No. 636-C issued on February 27,
1997, at Docket Nos. RM91-11-006 and RM87-34-072. The tariff sheet
incorporates the new right-of-first-refusal contract term cap. Steuben
also states since Order No. 636-C currently is pending rehearing at the
Commission, Steuben reserves its right to change its right-of-first-
refusal tariff provision to a contract term cap longer than five (5)
years should Order No. 636-C be revised on rehearing, or as a result of
any subsequent action by the courts.
Steuben states that copies of the filing were served upon the
    company's Jurisdictional customers.
Any person desiring to be heard or to protest said filing should
file a motion to intervene or protest with the Federal Energy
    Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20426,
in accordance with Sections 385.214 and 385.211 of the Commission's
Rules and Regulations. All such motions or protests must be filed in
accordance with Section 154.210 of the Commission's Regulations.
Protests will be considered by the Commission in determining the
appropriate action to be taken, but will not serve to make protestants
parties to the proceeding. Any person wishing to become a party must
file a motion to intervene. Copies of this filing are on file with the
Commission and are available for public inspection in the Public
    Reference Room.
