II. Did EPA Approve the Application?

The Agency approved the applications after considering all
required data on risks associated with the proposed use of lithium
perfluorooctane sulfonate (LPOS), and information on social, economic,
and environmental benefits to be derived from use. Specifically, the
Agency has considered the nature of the chemical and its pattern of
use, application methods and rates, and level and extent of potential
exposure. Based on these reviews, the Agency was able to make basic
health and safety determinations which show that use of LPOS when used
in accordance with widespread and commonly recognized practice, will
not generally cause unreasonable adverse effects to the environment.

    III. Approved Applications

EPA issued a notice, published in the Federal Register of
    September 4, 1996 (61 FR 46643) (FRL-5392-1), which announced that S.C.
Johnson & Sons, 1525 Howe St., Racine, WI 53403. had submitted
applications to register the pesticide products, Sulfotine and Raid

perfluorooctane sulfonate at 26% and 0.03% resepectively, an active
ingredient not included in any previously registered product.
The applications were approved on August 3, 1999, as Sulfotine
(EPA Registration Number 4822-457) for manufacturing purpose only, and
