Endangered Species
The following applicants have applied for a permit to conduct certain activities with endangered species. This notice is provided pursuant to Section 10(c) of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531, et seq.). The applicant requests a permit to import biological samples collected from cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), African leopard (Panthera pardus), and African wild dog (Lycaon pictus) in Namibia for the purpose of scientific research. The samples are to be collected by Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) from animals that are found dead or animals that were taken/destroyed in accordance with the country's management or problem animal control mandates. This notification covers activities conducted by the applicant for a period of five years.

Summary of Activity to be Authorized: The applicant has requested an amendment to the permit to authorize take and Level B harassment of a variable number of captive-held and wild manatees. The activities include incidentally harassing (Level B harassment) manatees during the course of aerial surveys, photo-identification, equipment exchange and removal, capture, and radio tracking; collecting body temperature of captive, captive-held, rehabilitated, and rescued manatees using nasal or oral temperature probes; calibrating oral/nasal probes with rectal and stomach temperature probes using captive animals; closely approaching and possibly harassing (Level B harassment) captive and wild manatees while using a remote research vessel to read PIT tags; attaching infrared flashers to tethers of tagged manatees; and testing infrared flashers and time-depth recorders imbedded in the belts of 2 captive manatees.
Source of Marine Mammals: Entire range in Florida.
Period of Activity: Up to 5 years from the issuance date of the amended permit.
