Notice of petition for exemption received.
SUMMARY:
This notice contains a summary of a petition seeking relief from specified requirements of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR). The purpose of this notice is to improve the public's awareness of, and participation in, this aspect of FAA's regulatory activities. Neither publication of this notice nor the inclusion or omission of information in the summary is intended to affect the legal status of the petition or its final disposition.

Petition for Exemption

Description of Relief Sought:
Federal Express is seeking relief to allow their aircraft, with an approved EFVS (Enhanced Flight Vision System) and properly trained crews, to be dispatched or released to a destination when the forecast weather is below the published Category I approach minimums, but not lower than one-quarter mile. EVFS is a recently developed infrared sensor that provides real-time video images for display on the HUD to the pilot.
