Dear Sir or Madam:
My company is a major distributor of produce in Northern California as well as a
shipper of tree fruits from the Northwest. One of the major categories that our
California office specializes in selling is citrus; both U.S. grown and foreign grown.
We annually sell in excess of one million cartons of citrus products.
Our company has operated here in California since 1934. I personally have been
very active in industry affairs having served on the charter USDA Fruit & Vegetable
Industry Advisory Board and I have also served as the Chairman of Produce
Marketing Association.
I have reviewed the proposed conditions for the importation of New Zealand citrus
fruit as described in Importation of Fruits and Vegetables; 14th Periodic
Amendment (Docket No. 03-086-01, 22 December 2005) and am satisfied that
these will provide sufficient protection from the listed pests of concern.
Please accept this letter in support of the Citrus From New Zealand section of
Docket No. 03-086-01. No one is more mindful of how critical it is to protect our
domestic citrus industry than ourselves.
Sincerely,
/s/ Grant M. Hunt
President
Grant J. Hunt Company
