Shift Cage Requirements

I volunteer at a large wildcat sanctuary. There has NEVER been an injury to a human or cat at this facility, unlike the deaths and injuries caused by and to breeders,"pet owners", and their large wild cats, because at the sanctuary, shift cage lockouts are used whenever an enclosure must be entered or a cat handled. While I would like to see all ownership of wild animals as "pets" stopped, that doesn't seem to be happening very fast. Until then, sanctuaries such as the one where I volunteer are needed, and safety measures such as shift cages are needed to protect everyone involved. People who feel that they are somehow loving their wild animals less because they aren't handling them on a lead need to imagine how loving it would be to see them destroyed because they somehow got loose and caused fear or harm to humans. It is unfair to punish the animal, most certainly, but that is always the end result.
