I was one of the first in the United States to start microchipping my dogs before it was required for identification for OFA, etc. Our first two years we had the chips done at the vet and then that chip was in trouble, so we went with the AVID chip which was used in other countries. We purchased chips and a microchip reader and all of our dogs from that point on had either one or two chips in them. Now I see that the US is trying to make the world standard its standard. Doing that will not help our dogs but it will make those of us who were first and who took this seriously now at a disadvantage. I have microchipped with the current US AVID chips for almost 11 years. I cannot afford to purchase different chips or a reader to accommodate the world. These chips are fine for the US and no international chip is needed here. For those who care to export their dogs, heaven only knows why they would do that, they can easily have the other ISO chip inserted. If the standard is to change it will be a hardship on those of us whoh ave spent thousands on the current generally used chipping system. Thank you.
