Attached you may find the English version of the open letter which is currently
sent to both Food and Press Agencies of the countries which are concerned by the
genetic contamination of their food chain.
Apart from the Bayer's case, this document lays stress upon two scientific
features:
- Assessment results that would only be based on the safety of a natural gene
cannot say much about the safety of the Artificial Genetic Construction (AGC)
which contains a modified version of this gene, as well as other genetic elements.
- Given the recognized unstability of an AGC, an assessment that would have been
carried out in the past cannot be considered as valid today.
Furthermore, in the case of the LLrice601, the propagation of Glufosinate
resistance towards other plants will require other herbicides to be spread for
getting rid of these contaminated plants.
