Live swine should not be imported from Chile to the U.S. No animals should have to suffer through such a long haul only to be slaughtered upon arrival. Importing live animals from other countries does not only cause a great deal of pain and injury to the animals but it also puts the U.S. in jeopardy of importing animal diseases and pests. Classical Swine Fever may have been cleared from this area at the present time but there is no guarantee that it is gone for good and relying on a paper trail and the word of a Chilean Veterinarian is not a reliable disease reporting system. I think it is dispicable that animal welfare is always the last priority in our country with profit and greed always being top priority. It is documented over and over again that by the time the animal transport trucks reach the slaughter houses several animals must be drug off the trucks because they are left crippled after the long hauls.
