In regards to the proposed amendment of Section 92.2, in the Information From Foreign Regions Applying for Recognition of Animal Health Status, I have found that condensing “the 11 factors” into 8, in order to make the information required more clear, is brilliant. That said the 80 hours required to complete the document is definitely tedious. I feel that the same if not more emphasis should be on the evaluation of the information received. The importation of livestock into the United States is a thorough investigation of foreign regions and its history. A mistake can be detrimental to our health not to mention the health of our livestock. Because not all disease is present during an initial exam, there should definitely be an amendment to examine the foreign regions livestock post mortem to rule out any potential disease through a representative sample. Certainly, there is no measure too big or extensive to take into consideration while thinking of the health of our population. I also agree with the amendment regarding notice to the Federal Register. I believe that waiting to release any finding in regards to foreign regions applying for recognition of animal health status should remain private until all findings have been reviewed. If it is open to the public with “half truths” there could be concern where none is needed. Once the application is accepted or denied, and only with the proper findings listed, I believe it is public information.
