To export guava for consumption in fresh to the United States has been an
objective on the part of the producers for several years, for which it has worked
applying the campaign against fruit flies, the preventive trap against exotic flies
and trap against citrus moth, for these two last ones without any suspicious
specimen detection.
The projection that is had is that in a short term they begin to recognize free
zones of fruit flies in the producing zones of guava of Mexico.
On the other hand, the effectiveness of the irradiation has been verified
scientifically on the inhibition of the cicle life of the pests. Also, in the State of
Aguascalientes, Mexico, with support of an institution of education and
investigation (Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes) was realised an analysis
of the effect of different radiation doses (150, 400, 800 and 1000 Gy) on the
organoleptic and physico-chemical characteristics from the guava, without finding
some effect attributable to the irradiation (statistical difference between the
treatments and the witness in three degrees of maturity was not had significant).
By the previous thing exposed, I consider that the export of guava of Mexico to the
United States is very reliable by the measures of risk mitigation analyzed.
