The downgrading of our entire state is extremely harsh since both cases of bovine TB reported here came from the same geografic region within the state. The rest of the state has been and continues to be TB free. The economic impact on small family operations, such as ours, is prohibitive to making ends meet. This is especially true at the present time with the high cost of fuel and feed. Bureaucrats within the US government need to apply common sense to the implementation of rules and regulations. Seldom are situations as black and white as the ink and paper used to communicate these regulations. This is akin to the entire nation being held responsible for the crimes commited in Washington, DC. Hopefully this travesty will be undone before ranchers in Northern New Mexico go bankrupt, because I don't foresee a federal bailout for us, non-Wall Streeters.
