Subject: Docket No. APHIS-2008-0140 “Amendments to Treatments for Sweet Cherry and Citrus Fruit from Australia and Irradiation Dose for Mediterranean Fruit Fly”
To Whom It May Concern:
We find the proposed treatments to be appropriate based on the evidence that they presented; however, there was no requirement mentioned for field monitoring of fruit fly populations in the production area with concomitant field treatment required when populations exceed a defined limit. Although the proposed treatments may be satisfactory to reach an efficacy at probit-9-level, if field populations go unmonitored there is a possibility that heavy infestations of the fruit flies could occur and in turn find their way to U.S. soil.
