To Whom It May Concern:
This is to respond to the subject proposal to remove the exemption that allows wood packing material from Canada to enter the United States without first meeting the treatments and marking requirements of the regulations that apply to wood packaging material from all other countries.
We do not oppose this regulation, as Florida’s climate would likely be favorable to many pests that may be imported with this material. It may also provide additional protection for Florida’s environment; however, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ would prefer that the required treatments would not preclude an additional inspection at the port of entry and that procedures are in place to confirm the treatments are applied properly.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposed rule amendment.
Sincerely,
CHARLES H. BRONSON
