I am no expert in the importation of fruits and vegetables, but I do believe that this amendment, with the information presented, seems to pose no threat to the health of Americans. The American Plant Health Inspection Service already allows entry of tomatoes and peppers for consumption where R. solanacearum race 3 biovar 2 has also been a threat. Adding further regulations upon their entry would only lessen the threat of contamination, a threat we face when we consume any crop. Although, I would like more information on the process of shipping, and how these tomatoes are preserved over their long journey to their destination. Overall, I feel safe to say that this amendment should be passed.
