This comment is to express my strong support for the new list of insecticides and use patterns for the imported fire ant program PPQ Treatment Manual. Insecticide alternatives are greatly needed for field-grown nursery stock, which only has chlorpyrifos available as a quarantine treatment. New products that will allow longer plant certification than chlorpyrifos are also really needed (e.g., pyrethroids like bifenthrin). For the current field-grown nursery stock drench treatment, new treatments that may allow a reduction in the number of drenches would also be a substantial improvement for nursery growers in terms of treatment feasibility and cost. Thank you for considering these changes to the fire ant regulations because they are really needed by the nursery industry.
