Kathy thank you for your comments on detectable warnings. I worked on a case where a women (who was able bodied) fell face down on the domes her foot apparently caught the leading edge and the doctor said it would have been better for her to have fallen on a flat surface becuase having the dome hit her head was like having a hammer hit it and it did fracture her skull and now she is permenently disabled. I also know a several falls by elderly where one of them broke their hip. I would hate to see what would happen to a child falling head first on a patch of the domes.
For your information I did communicate with the inventor of the domes in Japan and found out no studies for safety were conducted.
The original standard has a texture but that texture was subjected to test for being a non hazardous surface. The original work to produce the standard was done at the University of Illinois under principal investigator, Dr. Timothy Nugent.
