Dear BIA,
Please do not add new regulations requiring potential homeowners to obtain signatures of
100 percent of the landowners for each parcel of land in order to get approval for a homesite.
I am struggling right now to obtain a homesite lease with the White Mountain Apache Tribal
land office. Getting the 51 percent is causing many challenges because other relatives who
live on land that belonged to my great-grandmother and her other siblings consist of several
hundred extended relatives now and some never come home, nor do we know where they
exist.
If you add these new regulations, they will cause hardship in obtaining 100 percent of the
landowners signatures because many of my children and relatives cannot be found.
In addition, the communication network to get signatures is difficult because many of the
relatives do no live in region due to work and living else where for personal reasons.
My siblings Paul Crews and Cheryl Mercado, and son, Bryan Houston Sells are currently
difficulty getting land and now this new regulation will make it even harder. Please do not add
these new regulations. The new regulation only make it more difficult to obtain land for
homes.
Thank you, Valarie Tom (enrolled member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe)
