Dear Director Caswell,
I'm writing to express my opposition to the proposed revocation of the regulations
that require the Secretary of Interior to withdraw public lands from mineral
entry "immediately" when directed by congressional committees.
I'm am deeply concerned that the rule change comes in the middle of legal action
taken by conservation groups to force the Secretary to enforce the emergency
resolution passed by the House Committee on Natural Resources on June 25,
2008.
I am opposed to any uranium mining near the Grand Canyon -- there are plenty of
other places to get uranium without spoiling a national park. I also believe that a
complete Environmental Impact Study should be done to assess the impacts of
the rule change being proposed by the Secretary of Interior.
to summarize, please:
1. Oppose allowing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to change the
regulations regarding emergency withdrawals
2. Support maintaining congressional authority to order emergency withdrawals
3. Demand that BLM conduct an Environmental Impact Study for proposed rule
change
4. Oppose any new uranium mining adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park
