I am opposed to the proposed change in the emergency withdrawal procedure. But for the action of a Congressional committee having the authority to direct an emergency withdrawal, the current administration would allow uranium mining and/or mineral development to descecrate the Grand Canyon's wilderness. The timing of this regulatory proposal, late in the hour of a lame-duck administration, makes its birthright even more suspect. This is not a constitutional issue. This is a last-gasp bit of pork-barrel politics from a presidential administration that doesn't give a tinker's dam even about America's greatest national parks.
