Allowing gas companies to keep hidden from the public the carcinogenic chemicals they inject into the earth under the guise of "trade secrets" is, to me, the last straw in our governments long running inability to rule this land justly and with the common good of American Citizens as a main priority. If a government is willing to put economics and business before the physical well being of American citizens and their right to clean water, then that act renders the government illegitimate. If you cannot rule the people in their best interests, then you cannot rule the people. It's a simple fact that allowing industry to run rampant over our greatest natural gifts as a country has been on the agenda of this administration, and others before it. If the BLM allows the gas industry to keep hidden from the public the chemicals it is placing in the water supply, then government has failed utterly and completely, and those responsible for the damage done will be held accountable, regardless of the profits they make. Jobs being created are not worth land being ruined. Crops don't need money to grow, they need clean water. So, do not allow gas companies to keep the composition of these fluids hidden. They need to be fully disclosed, so we can judge as a people their dangers. No industry should have the right to damage our environment the way the Gas companies are poised to do. Also, dictating that certain areas are off limits due to their proximity to major metropolitan water sheds, while allowing more rural areas to be opened to hydraulic fracturing proves that A) there is a danger involved and B) the government views exposing a certain demographic to this danger is acceptable as long as major financial hubs are not endangered. This is unacceptable as it is essentially saying to the American people that "these lives are more important than those". All are created equal. Therefore, we all deserve equal protection from the dangers of HydroFracking.
