Re: BOEMRE Information Collection Activity: 1010–0067, Oil and Gas Well-Completion
Operations, Extension of a Collection; Submitted for Office of Management and Budget
(OMB) Review; Comment Request
Dear Ms. Blundon,
The Marine Mammal Commission strongly supports efforts by the Bureau of Ocean Energy,
Management, Regulation, and Enforcement to collect information regarding oil and gas well
completion operations. The Commission understands that this information is used to assess
the safety of various operations and provide a basis for improving those operations when
necessary. The recent spill in the Gulf of Mexico clearly indicates that better measures are
needed to prevent accidents and that severe accidents can have devastating effects on
marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. When weighed against such
a spill, the time and effort to keep better records of oil and gas operations and use those
records to improve operations seems relatively insignificant. Therefore, the Marine Mammal
Commission strongly encourages the collection of such information.
Please contact me if you need additional information regarding this information collection.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. Ragen
