Please do not back out of protecting us from predatory lending practices. The 25% up front fee limit is already a grossly inflated number. If you can't hold fast to even that ridiculous percentage, you're sending a clear message to us, the public, that your agency has no teeth to enforce any kind of consumer protection.
Today's article in New York Times about this issue is what brought me here to comment. We're watching, and hoping you will be the protection we desperately need. If you show you have a firm resolve to beat back the unethical, out of control lending practices, we'll support you and your efforts. Anything else turns your work into just another easily dismissed "business as usual" affair.
