I am writing in support of the proposed change to allow advanced practice professionals to write respiratory care orders in their own name. Currently within our health system, care is hindered by this requirement for patients in the acute care wards, the intensive care units, and post operatively. APPs who write orders for bronchiolitis, croup, asthma, post operative pulmonary toilet, or ventilation assistance must have all orders co-signed. The orders may not be co-signed in a timely manner and therefore not acted on delaying patient care. With the implementation of electronic ordering, having individual orders signed for a specific category is not effective. Most electronic systems only allow for all orders to be co-signed or none.
I feel this change is necessary to provide best and safest care to our patients.
Sincerely;
Kim Somers, PAC
