1. Please provide clarification regarding NPI numbers on pharmacy claims. Currently pharmacies submit thier NPI, but the pharmacy often submits the prescriber DEA number or state license number in lieu of the prescriber NPI. Is it expected that the pharmacy and physician NPI numbers are submitted on the claim for payment? Should the claims processor reject the cliam if one or both provider id nubmers are not NPI? 2. From a claims processor point of view, given the amount of time necessary to make the appropriate system changes supporting this provision for prescriber NPI and communicating the use of the required field to our pharamacy networks, the Affordable Care Act date of 1/1/2011 seems more reasonable than the CMS-6010-IFC date of 7/6/2010.
