It is my understanding of these May 5 regulations that CMS abruptly moved forward the deadline for physician registry in the PECOS system from January 3, 2011 to July 6, 2010, a notice of 60 days. CMS's (and thus Palmetto's) notice was so poorly worded that I did not recognize it applied to us. I became aware upon a notice from the California Medical Association dated 18 May. If it takes the largest state medical association two weeks that is effectively the start of the notice period. -The application is lengthy and complex, potentially consuming a great deal of time. -It requires the gathering of numerous details and supporting documents. -Those details and supporting documents may be obtained only from the physician concerned. -Many applicants must apply by mail, thus suffering the inherent postal delay. -Even doctors and their staff schedule vacations. This change of deadline is outrageous.
