It is fitting and proper to rescind the physician signature requirement. We in the laboratory receive many orders that are easily traceable back to the patient chart with appropriate physician notes and signature, but may not have been personally signed by the ordering physician. It is bad patient care and worse customer service to delay testing while a signature is obtained. This rule should be finalized and adopted as written.
