I would like to stress the importance of the inclusion of Prosthetic and Orthotic services in the required Essential Benefits portion of the Affordable Healthcare Law. The Essential Benefits does state that Rehabilitative services and devices are included, but this is not clearly defined. Patients that require prosthetic limbs and orthopedic braces require these custom services for a lifetime and the care must be provided by highly skilled experts in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. This is not the same as DME (durable medical equipment) that is sold at local pharmacies. When you see our veterans returning from war with multiple amputations, our citizens should be able to receive the same level of care from qualified providers in order to live a high quality of life, support themselves and family, work and be productive healthy members of society. Please make sure "devices " is clearly defined to include Prosthetic and Orthotic services for all insured.
Thank you,
